Leaving Home: Erich Fromm, Katherine Dunham, and Unfolding Humanism
Joan Braune is a Lecturer of Philosophy at Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington (Pacific Northwest of the United States).
She is the author of Erich Fromm’s Revolutionary Hope: Prophetic Messianism as a Critical Theory of the Future (Brill, 2014) and co-editor with Kieran Durkin of Erich Fromm’s Critical Theory: Hope, Humanism, and the Future (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2020).
For the past nine years, her research has heavily focused on resurgent fascism and has drawn on Erich Fromm's critical theory to contest fascist movements, especially in the United States. She is author of Understanding and Countering Fascist Movements: From Void to Hope (Routledge, 2024) and co-editor of The Ethics of Researching the Far-Right: Critical Approaches and Reflections (Manchester University Press, 2024). She is currently completing a new co-edited volume, On Christian Nationalism, with theologian David Gides.
