Prof. Dr. Thomas Kühn is Co-Director of the Erich Fromm Study Center, Co-Interim President of the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin, and Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology.

In his presentation for the online meeting, he develops the concept of normative identity work based on Erich Fromm’s social psychology and understands identity as a lifelong process through which people establish agency, belonging, and biographical coherence under specific social conditions. Using the dimensions of Agency, Belonging, and Coherence, Kühn explores when identity formation strengthens human development and self-activity — and when it leads to adaptation, alienation, or compensatory forms of collective identity.
